COP26

While world leaders meet to discuss our future at COP26, we'll be building power for system change together. Join in the People's Summit for Climate Justice Nov. 7-10 online from anywhere in the world, or in-person in Glasgow.

Fossil Fuel Election Pledge Campaign

During the federal election campaign TeamClimate 2021 urged candidates to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative. Candidates from three of the major federal political parties pledged support for the Treaty, including Green Party candidate Amanda Cain.

Team Climate 2021

The federal election has been called for September 20, 2021. ClimateFast is working with other climate activists to put together an election mobilizing team to put the climate crisis at the top of the election agenda.  If you would like to volunteer to join the team, email lyn[at]climatefast.ca for information.

We restricted nuclear weapons. Now we must limit fossil fuels

On Aug. 6, 1945, a single nuclear blast destroyed Hiroshima, Japan. Imagine 400,000 Hiroshima bombs a day. That’s the energy imbalance being created on the planet — an imbalance that has doubled, according to NASA, since 2005. And every time we leave our homes in a fossil-fuelled car, take a flight or turn on our gas-powered furnace or AC, we are adding to that energy imbalance. We are saturating an oversaturated atmosphere.

FFNPT IN THE NEWS!

Indigenous Protected Conservation Areas

This May, The Narwhal, held a webinar on the role Indigenous Protected Conservation Areas (IPCAs) could play in protecting biodiversity and mitigating climate change (1). IPCAs are different from other Conservation Areas because the lands and waters are governed by Indigenous leadership using Indigenous laws, governance and knowledge systems (2). Valérie Courtois, Director of the Indigenous Leadership Institute, talked about reframing “land use plans” as “relationship plans”. It’s a fundamentally different way of interacting with the world around us when you think about your responsibilities…

Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty-Toronto Campaign

We have whole-heartedly endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT) and helped to organize the Toronto FFNPT campaign, along with our partners MobilizeTO and Fridays4FutureTO.  Our aim was to have Toronto City Council endorse the treaty, and to ask the Canadian government to endorse the treaty and support its passage at the upcoming COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in November 2021. This was acheived on June 14, 2021. Lyn Adamson expains how in her blog "Growing the FFNPT one town at a time: our 10 step campaign strategy!"

Kitchen Table Climate Conversations (KTCCs) present a way we can create a dedicated space to share experiences, feelings and ideas about climate change. They begin with a host who invites others to come sit around their table and engage in a guided conversation. Virtual tables for now of course! Hosts can run the conversation themselves or work with a facilitator.KTCC

Groundwork: Food+Land+Climate

Food systems have a huge impact on climate and climate has a huge influence on food production. Learn how agriculture and changes in our food system can be a climate solution.  Drawdown research has shown that the many facets that go into the global food system produce almost a quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.  Groundwork: Food+Land+Climate is a series of webcasts in preparation for the upcoming UN Food Systems Summit this September - "Just…
